Dr. Meaghan Wilton is the project coordinator for the Fort Albany Community Garden Program that was started in 2014. She brings a wealth of knowledge on gardening in the far North of Ontario.

Dave Cleaveley is a retired Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry employee who was the Fire Program Manager. He has worked alongside First Nations for many years covering all aspects of protecting communities from wildfire. Dave speaks about the FireSmart program and the importance of emergency planning.

Robert Sanderson on The Health Impacts of Climate Change: Heat & Air Quality

Robert Sanderson, MHSc(C), is the Planning and Evaluation Specialist at the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU). Robert tells us how climate change impacts our health specifically looking at heat related events and air quality. We also learn about the on-going Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment project that is a collaboration between NWHU and 6 other public health units across northern Ontario.

Dr. Jesse Popp on Guardians

Dr. Jesse Popp is the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Environmental Science at Mount Allison University. Jesse tells us about a collaborative project that aims to connect guardians and/or communities in a changing world. She also touches on the other work she is doing that takes a two-eyed seeing approach in relation to climate change, specifically focusing on changes to moose populations.

 

Laura Shay Lynes on Climate Change Adaptation Planning

Laura Shay Lynes is the president of The Resilience Institute (TRI), a charitable organization based in Alberta. TRI's mission is to co-create a climate resilient future and reduce risk to disasters. In this talk, Laura shares how TRI and two Southern Alberta First Nations are weaving Indigenous and scientific knowledge to create Local Early Action Plans.

Rick Fleetwood (Meteorological Services Canada) and Myles Weishar (Weather Innovations) tell us all about CoCoRaHS the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network. CoCoRaHS is a volunteer network of weather observers of all ages and backgrounds measuring and mapping precipitation (rain & snow) in their communities.
